Propylene Glycol Alginate (PGA) is a food additive that is commonly used as a thickening, stabilizing, and emulsifying agent in a wide variety of processed foods. It is derived from the esterification of alginic acid, which is extracted from brown seaweed. PGA is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) when used in accordance with good manufacturing practices.
