It is a yellow or brownish yellow powder, and its aqueous solution turns blue black when it meets an iron salt solution. Adding sodium sulfite can delay the color change. In industry, tannic acid is widely used in tanning leather and manufacturing blue ink. Tannic acid can coagulate proteins. People use tannic acid to chemically treat raw pigskin and cowhide, which can solidify the soluble proteins in the raw skin.
