Aluminum chloride, an inorganic compound with the formula AlCl3, is a compound of aluminum. Aluminum chloride melting point, boiling point is very low, and will sublimate, as a covalent compound. Molten aluminum chloride does not conduct electricity, unlike most salts containing halogen ions (such as sodium chloride).
AlCl3 is a "YCl3" structure, which is the densest stacking structure of Al3+ cube, while Al3+ occupies the adjacent tetrahedral Spaces of the densest packing frame of Br−. At melting, AlCl3 forms a volatile dimer, Al2Cl6, containing two three-center, four-electron Bridges. At higher temperatures, Al2Cl6 dimers dissociate to form planar triangular AlCl3, similar in structure to (BF3).
1. Used for medicine, dyes, etc organic synthetic catalyst.
2. Nucleation agent in pigment .
3. Make many kinds of Aluminum composition.
